The New South Books and UNSW Press websites are specialist book publishing, sales, marketing and distribution forces, owned by the University of New South Wales.
After building the UNSW Press website in early 2020 the university approached us to build a new website for their second book agency, New South Books, in a multi-tenanted Wagtail site that would allow both sites to run side-by-side and be managed from the same Wagtail backend, sharing data as needed.
Together, the websites host over 100,00 pages, store over 200,000 books and seamlessly manage complex relationships between authors, publishers, prices, rights and inventories.
Data is ingested from multiple sources, transformed and stored, making it easily editable by UNSW staff. A completely custom-built task-management system allows staff to set up and run scheduled tasks from within the admin console.
Additionally, we built a B2B dashboard for publishers that allows users to log in and run reports on their products.
This is the perfect example of how Wagtail can be utilised to handle large volumes of data and integrate with third-party integrations and services, whilst maintaining the ability to extend easily over time to accommodate growth within multiple sites.
